Greenwich approves LEW Environmental to manage lead testing for rental units; costs billed to property owners

The Greenwich Township Committee on Feb. 17 approved Resolution No. 2-17-2026 authorizing LEW Environmental to provide professional services to support management of lead testing for rental units to comply with N.J.A.C. 5:28A.
The resolution, approved unanimously on a motion by Deputy Mayor Reinhart seconded by Mayor Orr, states that “the Township of Greenwich will not incur any direct fees as same are billable and payable by the property owner.” The Mayor was authorized to take steps necessary to effectuate the resolution, and the Clerk was directed to forward a signed copy of the resolution and the submitted proposal to LEW Environmental.
Committee members later discussed lead-testing notification letters and agreed letters will be reviewed before mailing. Mayor Orr confirmed landlords may use any contractor for testing, not only the vendor approved to manage the process.
