Dr. Cenatiempo said the district seeks a multi‑year fixed tuition contract with Newton but has been unable to finalize terms because Newton’s response to documentation requests has been delayed for “seven to eight months,” preventing verification of costs. The superintendent characterized the outstanding paperwork as the principal impediment to resolving the dispute.
Board members discussed potential next steps, including commissioning an independent feasibility study to evaluate whether Green should pursue separation from the send/receive arrangement with Newton and the fiscal implications of such a change. No formal motion to commission the study was recorded in open session; the tuition committee item was moved to executive session for further discussion of pending litigation and personnel-related matters.
The board also noted that pursuing an RFP or legal remedies would affect timelines and likely require additional staff time and outside counsel. Trustees did not announce a schedule for when a study or RFP would be issued.
