Under the approved contract the district listed tuition line items as: Regular Education estimated at $2,785,887 (117 students at $23,811 per student), Resource Center $26,077 and Special Education $31,905. After applying prior-year credits (regular education credit $28,584; special education credit $6,268) and a planned deferral of $200,000 ($50,000 per year beginning FY27), the total tuition due to Newton for 2025–26 was recorded as $2,609,017.
The board also approved payment of $239,076.30 for tuition in arrears covering September through November and authorized payment of the December tuition at the contractual monthly rate of $260,901.70, with both approvals recorded as subject to the receipt of previously requested supporting calculation documents and verification by the business administrator.
The motion to approve the Newton tuition contract was moved by Ann Marie Cooke and seconded by Mrs. McGuire; the arrears payment motion was moved by Cooke and seconded by Post. Language in the motion and minutes shows the approvals were conditional on verification of detailed calculations before final accounting adjustments are completed.
Board members noted the Newton tuition figures were significant to the district budget and were discussed in the audit presentation earlier in the meeting.
