Council honors Officer Leonard Warren for community outreach

The Hawaii County Council recognized Officer Leonard Warren for community policing and outreach initiatives during its Feb. 18 meeting at the West Hawaii Civic Center.
Sergeant Nahale (presenting the nomination) recounted events Warren coordinated in 2025 — including a youth outrigger canoe regatta, a Kona HiPal youth music showcase, a ‘Fill a Cruiser’ holiday toy drive that collected more than 1,000 unwrapped toys, and a community cleanup at Keala ʻO Keawe — that together served hundreds of children and families across West Hawaii.
Officer Warren thanked his colleagues, volunteers and family, saying his work was driven by community ties: “All I did was try to come up with a variety of activities to engage a broader group of kids... it's about our community.” Councilmembers praised the events and presented Warren with an award, noting his 20 years of service with the Hawaii Police Department and his role on the Kona community‑policing team.
The presentation included an oli from a local kumu and a short recess to present the award; the meeting resumed at 9:24 AM.
