Commissioners approve zoning change, lot development plan and routine county business
Summary

The Vermillion County Board of Commissioners cleared a series of routine and project-specific agenda items at the July 6 meeting.
Zoning: Commissioners approved a zoning change request from Phil Jennings to convert his property at 3144 North State Road 63 into a permanent RV park (from a temporary allowance). The measure passed after a favorable Area Planning Commission recommendation and no public objections.
Lots and housing: The commission selected McDaniel Home Improvement to develop two county-owned lots in the McLean subdivision. The accepted proposal calls for constructing a roughly 1,500-square-foot single-family home on each lot; McDaniel agreed to a nominal $100 per lot payment and $2,500 per lot to the county upon sale. Commissioners said the project helps advance local housing goals.
Owner-occupied rehab: Thrive West Central presented progress on an owner-occupied rehab program funded with grant dollars. Commissioners approved awarding inspection and radon-testing services to First Home Inspections (Terre Haute) to support an initial set of nine properties; Thrive reported 21 total applications and said it will schedule a pre-bid/contractor meeting in August.
Vacations and roadwork: The board approved three alley vacation requests where adjacent owners will consolidate lots, and it approved a one-time county road repair on private property (14—ft by 63—ft) used historically for public river access, per written agreement with the landowners. Commissioners also asked highway staff to draft a speed-limit ordinance for County Road 800 South (63 to County Road 275 East) for the August meeting after landowner petitions.
Other business: The board approved claims, payroll and an $18,000 closeout invoice for Gerald Consulting related to a demolition-grant project in Dana. Several items will return to future agendas for additional documentation or legal review.
What happens next: Staff will record agreements, execute the McDaniel contract when lots are conveyed to the county, and return with procurement details and proposed ordinances at subsequent meetings.
