The budget package includes anticipated revenues of $2,714,496 and withdrawals from district reserves: $60,000 from the Tuition Reserve to help fund tuition owed to Newton High School and $195,000 from the Capital Reserve to pay for a septic tank replacement, a teller window/license scanner, upgrades to the network backbone and stage edging. The board also included a $14,578 Health Care Cost Adjustment to support district operations.
Board member Ann Marie Cooke made the motion to adopt the budget, seconded by President CJ Bilik; the motion passed on a roll-call vote. The minutes note that two absent members, Mrs. Kristin Post and Mrs. Maureen McGuire, communicated they would have voted "yes" if present.
Why it matters: The adopted levy represents a 2% current expense tax levy increase compared with the prior year’s current expense levy. The use of tuition and capital reserves reduces the immediate tax impact, while the capital-withdrawal items are earmarked for specific facility and technology upgrades.
The board did not record any public comment on the budget during the hearing. The next board meeting is scheduled for May 21, 2025.
