At its April 14 meeting the Rolfe City Council denied a special animal permit application for 607 Locust Street. The permit was considered and the motion to approve (moved by Council member Aaron Cox and seconded by Al Minkler) failed after a recorded vote in which Dan Allen, Lana Pratt and Rob Jackson voted nay; the permit was denied.
Public comment at the meeting included neighborhood concerns and questions about how the city spends money on nuisance-abatement legal fees. Jeanne Thormodson asked council members to explain funds being spent on nuisance-abatement legal fees. Separately, resident Gerald Chappell defended that his cars are a hobby, saying they are his pursuit of happiness. Clerk Brandi Henderson reported one earlier barking-dog complaint had since ceased.
Council handled the permit and public comments during the regular agenda and did not adopt new nuisance-abatement policy at the meeting. The denial of the permit was a formal action recorded in the minutes; any appeals or follow-up would be subject to the city's permit and enforcement processes.
