Rolfe raises utility worker pay after certification; city to end outside maintenance contract

The Rolfe City Council on April 14 approved a $1.00-per-hour pay increase for utility employee James Perry following his completion of Lagoon Grade 1 certification. The resolution passed on an Allen/Cox motion with Pratt, Cox, Allen and Minkler voting aye; Council member Rob Jackson excused himself from that vote.
Council members said Perry’s certification enables him to sign required wastewater affidavits, and because of that capability the council voted to terminate the Municipal Maintenance Services contract effective April 30, 2025. Members framed the actions as a shift toward in-house capacity for wastewater compliance and maintenance.
Other operational permissions were approved at the meeting: the homeowner at Railroad and Grant Street was granted permission to remove a sidewalk at the homeowner’s expense, and Clerk Brandi Henderson was authorized to schedule an annual audit. Council also authorized accepting sealed bids to scrap approximately 1,000 pounds of dirty brass and approved selling old lift-station motors and pumps “as is.”
All personnel and contract changes were recorded in council motions and roll calls in the April 14 meeting minutes; the termination of the maintenance contract is set to take effect April 30, 2025.
