Hamilton Environmental Commission plans rain-barrel sale, pollinator outreach and April library exhibit

The Hamilton Township Environmental Commission advanced several public outreach initiatives at its Feb. 11 meeting, scheduling a rain-barrel sale for May 2, planning a Monarch-themed library exhibit in April and confirming a community clean-up on April 11.

Claudia Shaughnessy said she will develop a monthly Green Team work and maintenance schedule to post on the Commission’s website to attract volunteers for tasks such as maintaining the George Dye Library rain garden, the Alexander School rain garden, Endicott Park and Wing Haven.

Clinton Griggs reported that the Rain Barrel Event on May 2, 2026 has 19 barrels secured and needs 11 more to meet a 30-barrel goal; the sale will be limited to one barrel per family. Jeanette Bergeron recommended pursuing an ANJEC grant to cover supplies.

Ann Wolf outlined plans for an April library display centered on a Monarch Butterfly dome and said she, Claudia Shaughnessy, Nicolina Contardo and Jeanette Bergeron will work on materials; they were asked to notify Secretary Madison Nebbia by March 10 if funds are needed from the Commission’s budget.

Karl Vetter summarized Community Clean Up plans for April 11, noting he compiled last year’s site list, that Hamilton High West will attend to clean Shadybrook Park, and that the Commission will invite Jim Wyrough to the March meeting to finalize plans.

The Commission also discussed modest give-away items for events (seed pencils, dish cloths) and an invitation to Green Team members to participate in Salt Watch water testing provided by The Watershed.
