Elementary air-conditioning set for start of school; playground installation delayed to October

Hardyston Township administration told the board on Aug. 12 that electrical upgrades are complete and that the district has the air-conditioning units on site; the superintendent said crews will complete installations so all 29 elementary classrooms will have air-conditioning when school opens in September.
Board members asked about how many rooms lacked AC historically and noted several classrooms previously had individual air-conditioning lines for specific student needs. The superintendent said installing district-wide air conditioning required first upgrading electrical capacity, a step completed this summer.
On the playground project, administration said contractors are coordinating demolition of the old play area, landscaping and equipment installation. That coordination pushed the expected playground readiness into October; preschool classes will start the year on the existing playground and transition to the new space when finished.
The board did not take separate votes on the projects but discussed facilities planning more broadly under a newly adopted long-range facilities and finance goal, and directed administrators to prepare assessments and cost estimates to guide funding decisions in the coming year.
