Green Township BOE adopts tentative $14.33 million budget, schedules April 30 public hearing

The Green Township Board of Education adopted its tentative 2025–2026 budget on March 12, approving total expenditures of $14,333,239 and setting a public hearing for 7 p.m. on April 30 in the Green Hills School library.
Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Cenatiempo presented the budget and noted the district is negotiating a new tuition rate with Newton High School after an identified increase in tuition costs. Using 2025–26 state aid figures, the board recorded anticipated revenues of $2,714,496 and taxes to be raised of $11,618,743, which the board described as a 2% current-expense tax levy increase of $225,688.
Included in the proposed budget are a Health Care Cost Adjustment of $14,578 and a planned $195,000 withdrawal from Capital Reserve to fund septic-tank replacement, a teller-window/license scanner, upgrades to the network backbone and stage edging. The board also approved a district-wide travel and related-expense reimbursement policy consistent with N.J.A.C. 6A:23B, with a maximum aggregate allocation of $20,000 for staff and board travel.
Mrs. Ann Marie Cooke moved to adopt the tentative budget; Dr. Melissa Vela seconded. The motion carried on roll call with the board recording approval. The board will advertise the tentative budget in the New Jersey Herald as required and submit it to the Executive County Superintendent of Schools in accordance with state deadlines.
The board emphasized continuing work to manage a budget shortfall and to pursue cost-saving measures that do not affect student programming. A public hearing is scheduled for April 30, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in the Green Hills School library, at which members of the public may comment on the tentative budget.
