After mixed public comment, Select Board posts advisory 15 mph signs on Cochrane Road and asks staff for table-vs-hump cost estimates

Cochrane Road residents, many of whom joined the July 6 meeting, presented sharply divided views on whether the town should replace existing speed humps with speed tables. Supporters of the current humps said they slow drivers more effectively and protect pedestrians and cyclists; opponents cited vehicle damage and inconsistent compliance.

After extended public comment and several board members requesting pricing and enforcement data, the board voted to install advisory speed-hump signage recommending an approach speed of 15 mph and asked town staff to seek contractor pricing for converting one or more humps to tables for future consideration. Staff said in-house material costs for a table conversion could be roughly $1,500–$2,000 per feature for materials, while contractor bids are likely higher; the board asked staff to return with firm contractor estimates.
