Parent urges clarity on gifted program and report-card grading

At the Dec. 16 Board of Education meeting, a parent asked the board for clearer communication and faster implementation of a third-grade gifted-and-talented program.
"It has not progressed at all," the parent, Mr. Jodeskis of North Drive, said, adding that families received only one day’s notice that an aptitude test would be administered and that, a month later, parents had received no follow-up. "Now we are four months into the third-grade year," he said, expressing frustration about timing and lack of information.
Mr. Jodeskis also criticized the district’s 1–4 grading scale on report cards for grades 1–3, saying it clusters students at the middle (2–3) and does not identify top performers or learners who need additional support. "If we were really grading, I wouldn’t be able to tell who were the superstars and who was falling behind," he said.
