Rochelle Park superintendent honored at final meeting; board appoints interim through June

Dr. Sue DeNobile, who has led the Rochelle Park School District for six years, received a retirement proclamation and lengthy tributes from board members and township officials at the Board of Education’s Dec. 16 meeting.
DeNobile, who announced she will retire Dec. 31, recounted accomplishments under her tenure — navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, expanding wellness programs, securing grant funding for facilities projects including roofing and HVAC upgrades, and supporting special education and extracurricular programs. “Serving as your superintendent has been one of the greatest privileges of my career,” Dr. DeNobile said.
Board members credited DeNobile with strengthening the district’s programs and facilities. “You gave us a great base, and we are going to keep moving forward,” Board President Scott Kral said, praising her leadership through floods and the pandemic.
To provide leadership during the board’s superintendent search, trustees appointed Giovanni A. Giancaspro as interim superintendent effective Jan. 1, 2026, through June 30, 2026, unless extended. The employment agreement was approved by the board and submitted to the county superintendent as required. The motion to appoint carried 4–0–1, with Trustee Joseph DeFalco recording an abstention.
Giancaspro — described at the meeting as a retired superintendent with prior experience as a teacher, principal and district leader — said he looks forward to meeting staff and community stakeholders and continuing district initiatives.
The board’s immediate procedural steps include executing the interim superintendent’s employment agreement and continuing the search for a permanent superintendent. The district listed the reorganization meeting for Jan. 6, 2026, and the next regular meeting for Jan. 27, 2026.
