Early council schedules school meeting, agrees to replace memorial tree and accepts mural for display

At the June 2 meeting the Early City Council scheduled a community meeting about the vacant Early school for Thursday, June 11 at 6:00 p.m.; Cory Tiefenthaler said he would be at the building early to allow residents to look through the facility.
During public comment resident Carla Bainbridge said a memorial tree and its plaque donated in memory of her son on Main Street had been cut down; the council agreed the tree and plaque should be replaced and Cory said he would look into it.
The council also accepted an offer from the City of Sac City for a large mural of Early that had been removed from the Chautauqua Building; Cory arranged to bring the approximately 18-by-5-foot mural to Early and it is stored in his building until a permanent home is found; it will be displayed for Crossroads Days.
Other procedural items: Brian Pickhinke moved to approve a DOT Maintenance Agreement subject to review and approval by City Attorney Jennett, authorizing the mayor and clerk to proceed after that legal review; Cory seconded. The council instructed staff to apply for a DNR tree grant after the clerk reported grant information. The council declined to host a Sac County Public Health medication disposal clinic, saying nearby options were sufficient.
Next steps: staff will advertise the June 11 community meeting, Cory will inspect the memorial tree location, and the clerk will proceed with the DNR tree grant application and coordinate attorney review of the DOT agreement.
