Several Ocoee residents raised concerns about unexpectedly large water bills during the public-comment portion of the Aug. 25 meeting.
Resident Luther Tinsley told the board his bill had risen from $100 to $185. Robin Smith said her bill was $111 for what she reported as 6,000 gallons and questioned whether meter readings were reliable; neighbor Betsy Isham said she had a similar bill. Manager Ben Witt committed to reviewing usage and meter data for the three Riverbend Drive addresses identified (201, 213 and 221 Riverbend Drive) and to review Betsy Isham’s account.
The board did not vote on billing policy changes at the meeting but instructed staff to investigate these accounts and report back. The public comments came before the board moved on to several formal resolutions, including a water-loss plan intended to reduce system losses that can affect customer bills.
Next steps: Ben Witt will examine usage and meter-reading records and report findings to the board; no timelines for completion beyond the directive to investigate were recorded in the meeting transcript.
