At its Oct. 2 meeting, the Salem Township Planning Commission voted unanimously to advertise a special informational meeting in November to take public comment on proposed amendments to the township's Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (SALDO).
Township Solicitor Gary Falatovich said he would like the commission to revise two SALDO provisions as soon as possible: (1) grant the township the authority to charge solicitor, engineering and other fees to applicants and to collect escrows to cover those costs, and (2) clarify definitions separating minor and major subdivisions, land developments and side‑lot additions where sewage facilities planning is not required. Falatovich said those changes would address recurring problems with future developments and be fair to both developers and residents, adding that residents should not be subsidizing developer costs.
Commissioners agreed to advertise an informational public meeting in November. The commission then voted to adjourn; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 6, 2024, if there is an agenda.
