Board approves finance and personnel items, accepts $5,000 Special Olympics grant

At its Sept. 12 meeting the Hampton Board of Education approved several series of routine finance and personnel items and accepted a $5,000 grant to support a Unified Sports Club through Special Olympics.

The chair called for a motion on finance items 1 through 39; Mr. Antonacci moved and Mr. Chipione seconded the motion, which was carried by roll call. Personnel items 40 through 74 were moved and seconded and likewise carried. Later on the agenda, finance items 88 through 96 were approved, with board members noting an extension for agenda item 95 (a $10,000 wellness day program funded through the district's health insurance package); the negotiations committee said contract language is finalized and signatures remain.

Mrs. Renaud announced the board is "accepting a $5,000 grant through the Special Olympics to establish a United Sports Club," which will allow students to participate in soccer, football and track and field with other schools. She also said the agenda included approval of a swim club for the district. The board subsequently took the motions and recorded "motion carried" for the agenda blocks presented.

During the approvals, the negotiations committee confirmed teacher/employee contracts were settled in the spring and that lawyers continue minor edits prior to signing. The board did not discuss individual personnel hires in detail during the public portion of the meeting; motions were approved as presented on the published agenda and addendum.
