Pegram board approves rezoning for Beech Hill Road, passes contracts and equipment purchases

The Pegram Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Aug. 26 approved a rezoning ordinance, extended a subdivision bond and authorized several contracts and equipment purchases during its regularly scheduled meeting.
In a unanimous vote the board approved Ordinance 2024-163, reclassifying tax Map 095, Parcel 014.00 (Beech Hill Road) from R-1 (low-density residential) to R-2 (medium-density residential). The town attorney clarified the measure addressed only the zoning classification; specific development proposals or site plans were not before the board.
The board also approved a one-year extension of the Cedar Valley subdivision bond for $144,900, a Local Government Agreement for maintenance work in the amount of $13,820, and a three-year iWORQ service agreement to manage permits and code enforcement with an initial contract figure of $5,000 and a note that charges could change after the first year.
A wastewater system agreement intended to link GIS mapping with sewerline infrastructure was discussed and tabled for further research; the board voted to postpone that item to the September meeting.
The board approved purchases for the fire department from the general fund: 15 pairs of boots at a total of $7,875 and 10 helmets at $4,580. Members also approved an interlocal amendment with Kingston Springs regarding the shared building inspector, noting vehicle expense for a 2017 Ford Explorer will be split between the towns.
The board set a public hearing on Ordinance 2024-164 (reassigning employment oversight of the town recorder from the mayor to the vice mayor) for Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. During first reading the board voted to move oversight authority to the vice mayor, with Mayor Charles Morehead recorded as abstaining on that approval.
The meeting ended with a unanimous vote to adjourn at 8:08 p.m.
