Hanover Township announces Morris County parent training series, discusses corrective action for homeless students

At the Aug. 26 meeting, a child study team representative described new parent-engagement efforts and work to address a state corrective action related to homeless students.
Miss Logan, speaking from the child study team perspective, said districts in Morris County — including Hanover, Rockaway, Mount Olive, Mendham and others — are launching a Morris County parent training series this year. The program will provide nine short professional-development/parenting workshops for families with children from preschool through grade 12, offered live at varied times and virtually. Logan said the district will also seek at least two parent representatives from each building to participate in local parent advisory meetings.
Logan also noted the district’s corrective action work under the Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) framework, saying the district has examined and realigned training, operations, instruction, governance and finance to better serve students experiencing homelessness. She referenced state data that identified roughly 17,000 students as experiencing homelessness in New Jersey last year and said Hanover is committed to improving practices.
The board voted on its consent items and adjourned; the parent-training series and corrective-action steps will be managed through the child study team and relevant administrators.
