Mayor announces board vacancies, Historic District Commission revival and provides library update

Mayor Scott A. Fontenot used the June 10 city meeting to announce multiple vacancies on city-appointed boards and to invite residents to apply for openings.

The minutes record the resignation of Damingo Harrison from the Eunice Municipal Police & Fire Civil Service Board (noted as an employee of the city and therefore no longer eligible for appointment). Kevin Brown was recorded as having resigned as Eunice’s representative to the St. Landry Parish Sales Tax Commission and from the Eunice Housing Authority Board. The Mayor announced he removed a city-owned buildings ordinance from the agenda and said a bill was pending in the State legislature concerning regulation of water “wake” in lakes and ponds.

The Mayor also announced revival of the Historic District Commission and asked interested residents to contact him or Alicia Mire for more information. During the meeting Alderman At Large Marion “Nootsie” Sattler moved, and Alderwoman Germain Simpson seconded, a motion to appoint Chad Lemelle to the Eunice Housing Authority Board; the minutes segment records the motion but does not include an explicit carried or roll-call line in that segment.

Fire Chief Chaise Brown and Police Chief Kyle LeBouef presented departmental reports for May; the Mayor provided an update on library renovations, though the meeting segments do not include funding amounts or a construction timetable. The Mayor closed by inviting community members interested in volunteer board positions to reach out to city staff.
