Salem Township approves monthly bills, hires $25/hr consultant and waives fireworks permit fee for local VFD

The Salem Township Board of Supervisors on July 17 approved routine administrative business including minutes, monthly expenditures totaling $104,243.13, a consultant hire and a fireworks permit for the Slickville Volunteer Fire Department.
Supervisor Kerry Jobe moved and Supervisor Bob Zundel seconded approval of the June 19 regular meeting minutes and the June 27 special meeting minutes; both motions passed with Ken Trumbetta absent. The board then approved payment of invoices and payroll across funds: General Fund $39,868.06; Payroll Fund $48,031.04; Sewage $4,727.00; Liquid Fuels $4,710.77; Streetlights $395.06; Machinery $1,829.95; Fire $3,039.75; Park Initiative $1,028.00; Act 13 $613.50; total $104,243.13. Resident Tom Ridella questioned duplicate fuel invoices; township staff explained that Export Fuel submitted two invoices and Five Points’ charges reflected a backlog from the prior year.
The board also approved a fireworks-display permit for the Slickville Volunteer Fire Department and waived permit fees, subject to conditions listed in the permit motion. Separately, the board accepted Arlene Rosatti’s July 10 letter of interest and agreed to hire her as a consultant at $25 per hour.
Supervisors authorized advertisement of an ordinance to add the following roads to the township's official list of weight-restricted roads: Helen Drive (T741); Stony Springs Road (T794); Hillview Drive (T619); Long Plan Road (T674); Lake Drive (T676); and Walters Road (T933). That motion passed unanimously with Supervisor Ken Trumbetta absent.
In committee reports, Kerry Jobe said the park pavilion has been rented almost every weekend and that a new park master plan and comprehensive plan work with the Recreation Board are in progress. A prospective Recreation Board appointee, Tim Kozinkq, has submitted a letter of interest but his appointment is pending because, under current bylaws, Greensburg Salem School District makes two appointments to the board.
All administrative motions recorded at the July 17 meeting passed with Supervisors Kerry Jobe and Bob Zundel voting in favor and Supervisor Ken Trumbetta absent. The board adjourned at 8:11 p.m.; the next regular meeting is set for Aug. 21, 2024.
