Early schedules community meeting on closed school; 4‑H presents park improvement plans

Adam Bisenius of the Ridge View School District urged the City Council on May 5 to work with the district and community on future uses for the closed Early School building. The council agreed to hold a community input meeting on Thursday, June 4 at 6:00 p.m.; the location will be determined and announced.
Representatives of the 4‑H Achievers, Adriane McPhail and her daughter Alivia, presented the group’s short‑ and long‑term goals for Achiever Park. The group requested permission to mount a trash can, consider installing a bench and replace a Highway 71 sign that pointed to the school with one showing directions to Achiever Park and indicating accessibility. Councilmember Brian Pickhinke moved to approve those requests, Councilmember Christine Madden seconded and the motion carried.
McPhail said the group hopes to fundraise for a 4‑foot chain‑link fence around rubber surfacing, build a gazebo and pour three sidewalks to the gazebo, and apply for a Sac County Endowment Grant for matching funds by October. Mayor William Cougill and Councilmember Brandon Scadden volunteered to coordinate watering for Main Street planters so 4‑H members can maintain the displays.
