The Village of Fort Recovery Council voted unanimously June 15 to approve three separate resolutions, including a request to apply for a NatureWorks grant to help fund pool upgrades.
The council passed Resolution 2026‑19 to establish a fund for OWDA (Ohio Water Development Authority) wastewater loans, Resolution 2026‑20 to amend appropriations, and Resolution 2026‑21 authorizing staff to apply for a NatureWorks grant. Scott Pearson moved to suspend rules on each item and the motions to adopt were seconded and carried with a unanimous voice vote.
Mayor Dave Kaup asked residents to identify property owners who might sell land to help keep a local factory in town, saying the administration had "not much luck" so far but was "not giving up." The NatureWorks application was highlighted because Mercer County’s 2026 allocation is $33,904 and the program requires a 25% local match; council and staff said they plan to pursue support letters from local stakeholders to strengthen the grant packet.
The NatureWorks funds are being targeted toward pool maintenance upgrades — staff estimated a likely project cost near $45,000 for a new pool liner and related maintenance; the village will proceed with application steps now that council has authorized submission.
No member requested further changes to the adopted appropriations and staff were directed to file the grant application and proceed with required next steps.
