The Stevens Point Common Council unanimously elected Mark Christensen as council president and approved the mayor’s slate of appointees to standing committees at its reorganizational meeting on April 21, 2026.
Alderman Morrow nominated Mark Christensen for council president; with no other nominations brought forward, the council closed nominations and cast a unanimous ballot electing Christensen. The mayor congratulated the newly elected council president and the council recessed to allow three standing committees (public protection, personnel and finance) to select chairs and vice chairs before reconvening.
Earlier in the meeting the mayor presented an updated packet of more than three dozen mayoral appointments and noted minor clerical corrections to term lengths for several positions. The council approved that block of appointments—excluding the Police and Fire Commission—by roll call.
When the council reconvened it accepted the minutes and actions of the committee meetings and adjourned at 6:16 a.m.; the meeting video is posted on the city’s website, stevenspoint.com/videos.
