Superintendent updates playground timelines; tri‑board votes unanimously to enter executive session on teacher bargaining

School Superintendent Dr. Peter Botelho told the tri-board that orders have been placed for Cottage Street School playground equipment and that the project is scheduled to be completed before the start of the school year; work includes replacement of the main playground structure and repairs to other components. He also reviewed East Elementary School plans—netting and hardware replacement, replacement of the spider‑web structure, a new wall structure and a climber—also scheduled to finish before school begins. Members noted the projects align with the approved capital appropriation and that equipment can be relocated if future facility plans require it.
At the end of the public session, each board moved and voted to enter executive session pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 30A, Section 21(a)(3), to discuss strategy related to collective bargaining with the Sharon Teachers Association, citing that open-session discussion could harm the Town’s bargaining position. Finance Committee motion to enter executive session was made by Ira Miller and seconded by Phillip King; yes votes were Donald Brichta, Ira Miller, Anja Bernier, Zach Altman, Alex Derevianko, Phillip King, Chris Pimentel and Sharon Duret. The Select Board motion was made by Pasqualino Pannone and seconded by Kiana Baskin; yes votes were Kiana Baskin, Hanna Switlekowski, Xander Shapiro, Sam Liao and Pasqualino Pannone. The School Committee motion was made by Julie Rowe and seconded by Georgeann Lewis; yes votes were Dan Newman, Adam Shain, Allan Motenko, Georgeann Lewis and Julie Rowe. The meeting recessed at 8:17 p.m. to enter executive session.
