Walled Lake council thanks Civic Fund volunteers after packed summer festival

The Walled Lake City Council on July 8 unanimously approved a resolution thanking the Walled Lake Civic Fund, its volunteers and sponsors for the 2026 summer festival and fireworks show.
Ron “RJ” Johnson, president of the Walled Lake Civic Fund, told the council the event drew about 6,000 wristbanded attendees and attracted visitors from Oakland, Livingston and Wayne counties. “Our volunteer board has done the fireworks for 16 years,” Johnson said, and organizers tracked attendance, vendor feedback and transport routes to plan next year’s event.
Local business owner Jerry Millen, who introduced himself as owner of the Greenhouse of Walled Lake, praised the city staff, DPW, police and fire for their roles in the event. “DPW doesn’t get enough recognition,” Millen said. “You did awesome.”
The resolution, read aloud by staff, named many volunteers and sponsors and said a copy would be presented as a token of the council’s appreciation. Councilmember O’Rourke moved to approve the measure; Councilmember Ambrose seconded, and the council approved it by voice vote.
City staff and volunteers said vendors reported no complaints and organizers plan to coordinate with the DDA to expand business participation and to capture lessons learned while details remain fresh. The council said it will place follow-up items on the DDA agenda and thanked organizers for the event’s safety record and apparent community turnout.
