Salem Township awards Brodner $913,020 signal upgrade contract; alternate mast‑arm replacements tabled

Salem Township supervisors voted Dec. 18 to award Brodner Technical Services, Inc. the contract for traffic‑signal safety modifications at six intersections along State Route 22 and to install a flashing school zone device along State Route 119.
Bids were opened at a special advertised meeting Dec. 17 and presented to the board. Brodner’s base and alternate bids totaled $913,020.06, which was the lowest total among bidders. The board unanimously approved awarding the principal contract to Brodner and tabled the alternate bid to replace two damaged mast arms pending further evaluation by the township’s traffic engineer.
Supervisor Ken Trumbetta said the two mast arms at Hornock Drive and at the Allegheny Paper Shredders intersection were damaged in accidents; the engineer noted the existing wiring lengths and installation details may complicate replacement. Resident Eric Hageder asked who will bear the cost when signal equipment is struck; Trumbetta said the responsible party is not currently identified and the township absorbed costs in the past when liability could not be established.
The board also recorded the three opened bids and totals during the public session. The board’s vote to award Brodner was unanimous.
