Salem Township applies for Commonwealth grants to extend waterlines to five areas, board cautions award not guaranteed

The Salem Township Board on Nov. 20 approved Resolution No. 29-2024 to apply for funds under the Pennsylvania Race Horse and Gaming Act for multi-area waterline extension projects and designated an agent to act for the township in grant matters.
Supervisor Kerry Jobe said residents have requested waterline extensions in multiple locations. The board identified five potential project locations—Kennan, Tucker, Hornock, Kaufman, and Tower & Apple Lane—with estimated project costs in the range of about $346,000 to $731,000 per project. Jobe said the projects are incremental in cost and that the township may not receive grant funding for all (or any) of the proposed areas.
The board also approved Resolution No. 30-2024 to apply for Commonwealth funding for township equipment purchases and authorized an agent to conduct grant-related activities.
Staff asked residents to email the township about water issues so staff can add locations to the list and finalize a project scope for grant applications. Both resolutions were approved unanimously.
