Salem Township preliminarily advertises 2025 budget, approves routine expenditures and vendor agreements

The Salem Township Board of Supervisors preliminarily approved and agreed to advertise the 2025 proposed budget and ratified routine monthly expenditures at its Nov. 20 meeting.
Supervisor Kerry Jobe said the board will consider final budget approval at its Dec. 18 meeting. The board also approved payment of monthly invoices across township funds totaling $120,116.81, with supervisors Bob Zundel, Kenneth Trumbetta and Kerry Jobe voting unanimously to pass the motion.
The board authorized advertising for quotes to appoint a certified public accountant or firm to conduct the township’s 2024 fiscal-year audit, with quotes to be solicited before Dec. 9 and an appointment planned at the Jan. 6, 2025 reorganization meeting.
On employee benefits and vendor agreements, the supervisors approved a renewal agreement with UPMC Health Plan for 2024–25 (the board had previously discussed an 8.4% premium increase) and approved a new pricing-structure service agreement with Definiti to take effect Jan. 1, 2025. The board also approved providing dental coverage to township employees through the PA Townships Health Insurance Cooperative Trust; the annual premium will rise from $10,770.10 to $11,308.30.
Several routine items were approved without debate, and the board tabled hiring a road-crew employee pending further review.
The board noted residents may submit questions about budget items in advance and reminded the public that the final budget hearing is scheduled for Dec. 18, 2024.
