Atkinson — The Atkinson Planning Board voted 6–0 April 15 to approve the minutes of its April 1 meeting after a brief debate over using artificial intelligence to produce draft minutes.
Vice Chair John Ottow told the board that AI-produced minutes ‘‘were done quickly and provided the next morning which is something he prefers.’’ Chair Sue Killam acknowledged AI’s usefulness but said she had found mistakes and material insertions in AI-generated notes and stressed the need for careful review. Member Hank Turell added that ‘‘AI can insert errors and change the tone of what was being said,’’ and said results require double-checking.
Alternate Karen McFadden said she uses AI in her work with the Capital Improvement Committee and would like to receive minutes earlier, though she sometimes finds AI-produced minutes hard to follow. Chair Killam said the Land Use Administrator will provide minutes earlier to board members.
Vice Chair Ottow moved to approve the April 1, 2026 minutes as presented; Member Ted Stewart seconded the motion and the board voted unanimously to approve. The board then continued to other agenda items.
