The Columbia County Board of Commissioners on July 7 approved a contract with 11x US Incorporated to install a smart parking system for the performing arts center parking deck and surrounding public lots.
The contract as presented sets a one‑time capital cost of $323,265.99 and an annual service amount of $37,230.48. A county presenter said staff negotiated inclusion of the parking app (previously quoted as an add‑on) into the one‑time purchase and reduced the annual amount after committee review.
"This allows us to display the amount of parking spaces that are available in and around the performing arts center," the presenter said, explaining the system will cover all public parking on that side of the venue and could reduce unsafe search‑for‑parking behavior during large events.
Commissioners discussed scope and safety benefits; one commissioner said the system would help traffic flow and reduce hazards at busy events. The motion to approve the contractor passed 4–1.
Why it matters: The system represents a county investment in traffic management and event safety for a high‑use public venue. The board approved the capital item and ongoing costs after staff negotiation to improve scope and lower recurring charges.
What happens next: Staff will execute the agreement with 11x US Incorporated and coordinate implementation and public communication about the app and system access.
