The Pocahontas City Council took a string of administrative actions on Feb. 17, approving pay changes, equipment purchases and several requests while tabling one cemetery-related resolution for further amendment.
Council approved a $1.00 hourly raise to be implemented immediately for part-time library staff; the motion was made by Cody DeWall and seconded by Nicole Harrison. The council also approved purchasing three mailboxes for Prairie Estates Phase 2 residents after a motion by DeWall and a second by Duane Flaherty. The minutes show these motions passed with all ayes.
Tax abatement requests were considered for Hoefing, Peterson and Luft. Motions to approve abatements for Hoefing and Peterson were made and approved; the Luft request was tabled for additional research. The minutes do not record vote counts or detailed eligibility findings for the abatements beyond noting approval or tabling.
The council approved allocating $1,500 to cover a slot in the next CDL class for K. Rice, on a motion by Duane Flaherty seconded by Nicole Harrison. Council also accepted a dividend check presented by Stephanie Webbink of Webbink Insurance and heard economic development updates from Mary Jo Litwiller about Community Café Cards, Discover Poco, a podcast grant and March leadership classes.
On resolutions, council reviewed and corrected language in RES 01-2026 and approved the correction (motion by Cody DeWall, second by Duane Flaherty). RES 06-2026 (streaming policy) was discussed and the council determined no resolution action was required. The council approved converting RES 10-2026 (Complaint Form Policy) into an administrative policy (motion by Nicole Harrison, second by Cody DeWall). By contrast, the Cemetery Management & Maintenance portion of RES 10-2026 was tabled for amendment and will return for reconsideration at the March 2 meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:17 p.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for March 2 at 4:30 p.m. in City Hall Chambers.
