Readstown board approves grants, event permits and several ordinance updates; Lepke building plan tabled

At its April 17 meeting the Readstown Village Board approved a series of routine motions covering grants, permits, training and ordinance revisions, and tabled a building plan for further review.
Trustee Swenson introduced and the board approved a street-closure request for a Shovelheads Corner Bar event; the board also approved the village’s 2025 Vernon County grant application. Swenson moved (multiple times) for approvals that included WRWA webinar registration for village water operators, Callaway annual fireworks permits, election worker pay, and payment of the SWDL loan from the Local Government Investment Pool (LGIP). Trustee Nash or Trustee Payne seconded the motions as noted in the minutes; roll-call votes were taken and the motions carried.
On ordinances, the board approved repeal and recreation of Ordinance 2.16 (Village Administration & Compensation) and Ordinance 12.05 (General Prohibition on Open Burning, Outdoor Burning, and Refuse Burning). The board also approved repeal of Ordinance 12.07 (Waste Receptacles Required).
The board reviewed a building plan submitted by Lepke but voted to table the item for further consideration; no substantive details or conditions for resubmission were recorded in the minutes. The board approved operator licenses for Cassidy Turner and Joshua Hamilton and authorized payment of March bills and approval of March meeting minutes. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for May 8, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., and adjourned at 6:25 p.m.
Department reports included a fire-department update from Charlie R. Strait that the department has purchased three new sets of gear, added a new member and has had 16 calls so far this year. The clerk reminded residents of CDBG application timelines and upcoming public-facing dates including open book and the Board of Review.
