Finance Committee reviews December reports, notes $13,000 payment and cash-back-funded holiday gathering

The village Finance Committee convened at 7:00 a.m. Monday at 96 Russell Drive to review monthly financial records and future agenda items. Chairman Dave Borchardt and member Chuck Mueller were present, and Clerk/Treasurer Stephanie Waala attended as the village employee responsible for the records.

Committee members reviewed October credit-card purchases and reported no items of concern. During review of December checks, Borchardt asked how the annual holiday gathering was paid; Clerk/Treasurer Stephanie Waala said the expense was covered by the cash-back rewards earned on the village credit card.

The committee noted a $13,000 payment from Krier Foods in the December receipts. Borchardt asked how many payment increments remain due; Waala said she will follow up at the next meeting with details on outstanding installments. On timesheets, Borchardt said overtime still needs further review and that he will follow up with an employee named Peter on available options to address overtime.

Member Chuck Mueller asked why interest income was unusually high early in the fiscal year. Waala explained that because the village held a large balance in its checking account in December and January due to received tax revenue, interest income appears higher early in the year.

The December balances report was reviewed with no items noted. For future business, the committee listed a debt service spreadsheet for a coming agenda. The committee adjourned at 8:10 a.m.
