The Readstown Village Board met May 8, 2025, and unanimously approved a street closure for a community benefit, a picnic permit for the fire department’s upcoming Test & Tune event and two alcohol operator licenses. The meeting, called to order at 5:00 PM, lasted 23 minutes and adjourned at 5:23 PM.
The board approved a street closure for Chad Crook’s benefit after a motion from Nash and a second from Clark; the motion carried. Nash also moved to approve a picnic permit for the fire department’s May 25 Test & Tune event; Swenson seconded and the motion carried. Clark moved to grant operator licenses to Jamie Gander of Kickapoo KWK Stop and Brittany McCauley of Shovelheads Corner Bar; Nash seconded and the board approved the licenses. Nash moved, and Swenson seconded, approval of accounts payable following a roll call; the board approved the expenditures. The board also approved the April meeting minutes and set the next regular meeting for June 12, 2025, at 5:00 PM. The Callaway fireworks permits were tabled.
Board members heard brief reports from local responders and municipal staff. Scott Wilson reported that EMS added two new EMTs and documented 42 patient-contact runs. Charlie R. Strait reported the fire department added one member who completed Level 1 training, bringing the department to 14 state-certified firefighters; he also said the department’s brush truck sold for $15,100 and the proceeds will be deposited into the Local Government Investment Pool. The fire department’s Test & Tune event was announced for May 25.
Library representative Monica Matos said about 40 people attended a library town-hall survey that showed strong resident interest in a community garden; she said she is obtaining quotes for a water-spigot hookup and that Friends of Readstown are helping with the project. Public works reported that B&M replaced a sewer pump that day and that the backup generator is being repaired.
Clerk/Treasurer Chelsey Hoffman reported that staff found numerous utility-billing errors while working on the PSC rate case, that the library roof will not be covered by insurance, and that the village received a letter approving a 2025 Vernon County Economic Development Grant. Hoffman also distributed preliminary floodplain maps, provided an update on a retirement error and communications with WRS, and said the village attorney will attend the next meeting to address ordinance-enforcement questions.
The meeting concluded with a motion by Howell to adjourn, seconded by Swenson. The board adjourned at 5:23 PM.
