Chairman Rachel Fuller said the village board approved moving forward with a request for an engineer and that the RFP will include design, engineering, permits and grant opportunities. Clerk/Treasurer Stephanie Waala said sample RFP templates exist and that the village could send the RFP by the end of the week.
Committee members and participants proposed several fundraising tactics. Member Blaine Werner recommended checking the Lake Trust for potential funding; Member Erik Buchelt said the committee should present a timeline, list the costs they must hit, display design renderings on the village website and recognize donors. Buchelt said he would research online fundraising platforms and suggested using the village “R” logo as a fundraising thermometer. Duane Urbanski offered to speak with Collins State Bank about a possible partnership. John Rassel urged frequent community engagement and open houses similar to the Master Plan process. Kelly Killian emphasized that no taxpayer funds should be used for the project and suggested a direct mail campaign.
The village engineer provided preliminary cost estimates for key elements: a boardwalk with a construction cost of about $275,000 plus approximately $16,000 for engineering, $5,000 for DNR-related fees, and $18,000 for inspections; an ADA-accessible path estimated at roughly $150,000 with about $34,000 for engineering. The committee did not approve any expenditure at the meeting; next steps are issuing the RFP and pursuing fundraising and grant opportunities.
