Brimfield BZA hears staff updates on local projects; hotel inquiry behind McDonald’s flagged for fire review

Brimfield Township zoning staff provided a roundup of local development and construction updates at the Board of Zoning Appeals meeting on Aug. 20.
Mike Hlad, Economic Development Director and Zoning Inspector, told the board the VA Center looks good but needs some landscaping replaced. He said Kenda Tire is complete and occupants are moving in, and Wohlwend Engineering is beginning work on its third building. Hlad reported that Drug Mart and a planned Assisted Living Center are moving "incredibly quickly," and that The Villas at Wyles Farm already have a waiting list; managers have been placing some new tenants in offsite hotels and apartments because construction cannot keep pace with signed leases.
Hlad said the Woodland Reserve (a Ryan Homes allotment) is proceeding more slowly, and Wing Warehouse is renovating its space and plans to offer live entertainment. He also said the township received an inquiry about a potential hotel behind the McDonald’s location; the prospective developer proposed a four-story building that may require Fire Department approval because of its height. Hlad said the BZA would require conditional-use review if the project moves forward.
Hlad asked that the board send a notice to the owner of the new Schaefers Woods subdivision to cut promised grass. The next BZA meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17, 2025.
