City engineer updates council on road, lift‑station and Well 6 generator issues

City Engineer Kent Louwagie briefed the Long Prairie City Council on July 23 about ongoing infrastructure work on CSAH 56/38, the Main Lift Station, and Trunk Highway 287.
Louwagie said overseeding done in June has materially improved turf establishment along Riverside Drive and 2nd Ave SW, though a few yards will require additional corrective work. For the new Main Lift Station, Louwagie said permanent power from Minnesota Power is planned to be installed next week. The new lift station must operate for 30 days before crews will demolish the old equipment and proceed with final project closeout.
On Trunk Highway 287, Louwagie said MDOT (District 3) expects to continue concrete walk and curb construction and tentatively plans a mill and overlay the following week, subject to weather.
Louwagie cautioned the council that Minnesota Power has changed equipment installation requirements for the Well 6 standby generator: the utility will no longer permit mounting the current‑transformer (CT) meter on its pole, which means the city’s electrical contractor will likely need to install a service CT cabinet on site. That change could add cost to the Well 6 project; Louwagie said staff will provide additional information and cost estimates as they become available. He also noted staff is reviewing a previously reported erosion concern involving a swale at the Steve Laumeyer property tied to the CSAH 56/38 projects and will work toward official project closeout when resolved.
Louwagie provided the council a project website link for Trunk Highway 287 maintained by Minnesota Department of Transportation District 3. The council had no formal questions that changed project timing at the July 23 meeting.
Louwagie and staff will return with any cost estimates and updates related to the Well 6 CT metering change and with closure documentation for the erosion item when available.
