Newaygo recreation authority approves $2,325 pond maintenance contract

The Newaygo Community Recreation Authority voted March 12 to contract with Savin Lake Services for pond maintenance at a total cost of $2,325.
John Clark moved to approve the Standard Pond Maintenance Program and Chair Jennifer Badgero seconded; the motion carried by unanimous voice vote. Board minutes record the contract amount and that the program includes three aquatic plant and algae-control treatments and three systemic emergent plant-control treatments intended to reduce cattails.
County representative Asa Vermeulen said he is researching grants to extend sidewalks around the pond and improve ADA compliance. Vermeulen also provided a separate update on disc-golf course work, including kiosk construction and widened fairways, and reported that a local organizer may host a tournament this summer.
The authority will proceed with the contracted treatments for the pond under the Savin Lake Services program and explore grant options to fund sidewalk improvements that would increase ADA accessibility.
