The Montague Township Committee on Jan. 13 introduced Ordinance 2026‑02 to amend Chapter 28, Section 28‑3 (“Specifications”) of the township code to align local address‑number requirements with the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code and the International Building Code.
Mayor Zitone advised the committee that both codes require address numbers to have a minimum height of 4 inches and a minimum stroke width of 1/2 inch to ensure visibility for emergency responders. Mr. Merusi moved to introduce the ordinance; Mr. LeDonne seconded and the motion carried on a unanimous roll call vote.
The change is regulatory and focused on improving address visibility for public‑safety responders; the committee did not discuss an enforcement timeline at the Jan. 13 meeting.
