Marionville aldermen discuss higher brush-dump fee and new flat street-cut permit fee for utilities

The Marionville Board of Aldermen on Nov. 14 discussed and agreed in principle to raise fees to discourage problematic dumping and to improve cost recovery for street repairs.
Kris Bowling described repeated problems at the city brush farm: commercial haulers depositing large stumps, whole trees and mulch that smolder and require monitoring and labour-intensive burns. Bowling said the current fee structure charges commercial users $10 per day or $100 per year and proposed changing it to $500 for 12 months limited to brush collected from Marionville city limits; the board agreed to ask the city attorney to prepare an ordinance change.
On street cuts, Bowling reported that some utility companies are not repairing cuts correctly and the city has repeatedly performed repairs. After comparing fees with nearby cities, aldermen agreed to amend the fee to a flat $1,000 for any cut and to have the attorney update the ordinance.
No final ordinance language or effective dates were adopted at the meeting; both items were recorded as board direction to have the attorney draft the formal changes.
