Marionville adds full-time public works position in 2025 budget draft, delays chip-and-seal work

City officials on Nov. 14 discussed staffing and pavement priorities as part of the 2025 budget review. The Board of Aldermen consented to add a full-time public works employee to the 2025 budget draft and to hold off on chip-and-seal projects for now.
Kris Bowling (Public Works) explained the draft includes another part-time public works employee but said, "if public works took on the cemetery, this position needed to be full time." He noted that contracting out cemetery mowing was an option and that buying a new mower would be required if public works took the task in-house; the board discussed consolidating the number of mowers currently owned.
The board reviewed estimates for chip-and-seal in certain areas and agreed to postpone that work while adding staff capacity in public works. The staffing decision is reflected in the budget draft; the board did not adopt a final budget at the meeting and further action will occur during the official budget process.
