Marionville approves storage rack and graphics for new fire vehicle, contracts grant writer for radios

Marionville aldermen on Nov. 14 authorized purchases and a grant-writing contract to support the city’s fire department as it outfits a new F150 vehicle and equips new volunteers with radios.
The board voted 6-0 to purchase a storage rack priced at about $2,500 and to use Stripes for vehicle graphics, with the storage rack to be paid from ARPA funds. Alderman Kevin Bliss made the motion and Alderman Kathy Urschel seconded; the vote was recorded as unanimous.
During the meeting aldermen heard that the original estimate to outfit the vehicle was $70,000 and the project was currently $500 over estimate, with additional items still needed such as graphics and the rack. The board reviewed three quotes for graphics and chose Stripes for lettering.
Separately, Kris Bowling presented a Lexipol estimate of $4,500 to write a federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) application. The AFG award can be up to $75,000 with a 5% local match; Bowling said radios cost about $4,500 to $5,000 apiece and that new volunteers will need radios. The board voted unanimously to contract Lexipol to prepare the application. Bowling noted that if the grant is awarded Lexipol would deduct $1,500 from its fee.
The actions commit city funds to finalize outfitting and to hire a private writer to pursue federal grant funds for radios; award of the AFG would be decided by the federal program and, if successful, would require the city's match and follow-up procurement steps.
