Planning commission approves short‑term rental at 30 Quarterline with licensing and parking conditions

The Newaygo City Planning Commission on March 18 approved a site plan to allow 30 Quarterline to operate as a short‑term rental, imposing licensing and parking conditions on the property owner.

Chairman Francis opened the meeting at 6:30 p.m. and commissioners voted on a motion by Commissioner Fedell, seconded by Commissioner Williams, to approve the site plan for 30 Quarterline; the motion passed "all in favor/motion carried". The approval was conditional: the owner, Ken Armour, must complete a short‑term rental application to obtain a city short‑term rental license, and if tenants park off the premises they must secure a city parking permit and use the city’s designated overnight parking spaces.

City Manager Jon Schneider told the commission that the submitted site plan shows two on‑site parking spaces. Commissioners discussed how overnight parking would be handled if tenants required off‑site spaces and clarified that off‑site parking would need a permit and must be in the designated city overnight areas.

The approval allows the owner to proceed with the short‑term rental process but does not substitute for the required licensing steps; the licensing application and any follow‑up inspections or permit approvals must be completed before a short‑term rental license is issued.

The commission completed its remaining business and adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
