Roberts board approves Well No. 2 overhaul, moves forward on stormwater analysis and awards local demolition and fence contracts

The Village Board approved several infrastructure and capital work items at its May 11 meeting, including a full overhaul of Well No. 2, a downstream hydraulic analysis for the West Blvd street project, awarding a demolition contract (subject to tree-removal confirmation) and replacing the ball field backstop at Roberts Village Park.

For Well No. 2, staff provided three repair bids; Ridgeline Utility Company’s comprehensive quote — replacing the meter, backflow preventer and the well house span to match other wells — was approved to reduce repeated travel and to standardize the site. Trustee Brian Tremblay moved to approve Ridgeline’s quote, seconded by Janell Beal; the motion carried.

On the West Blvd street project, trustees approved Amendment No. 1 to add a downstream hydraulic analysis to ensure stormwater improvements would not shift flooding downstream. Trustees discussed potential impacts on a farmer’s field across 65 and potential mitigation options including additional storage or enlarging culverts; the board asked engineers to study alternatives and returned with a motion by Jeff Vogt, seconded by Mary Shemon to proceed with the analysis.

The board awarded the demolition contract for the building at N. Division and W. Maple to Haas Excavating because it submitted the lower bid; trustees stipulated that if the bid did not include tree removal they would request an updated price and bring the matter to a special meeting.

For park repairs, Cyclone Fence’s quote to replace the backstop and two pieces of the first base line was approved after other vendors did not provide competitive responses.

Updates were also provided on Well No. 3 paperwork under attorney review and on the 70th/130th watermain loop sequence with expected work in July.
