Hometown Disposal contests award after Roberts board selects Olson; trustees agree to revisit RFP in two years

Rob Stafsholt of Hometown Disposal told the Village Board on May 11 that his firm had submitted the lowest prices on three of four bid combinations in the recent garbage and recycling solicitation and raised concerns about how the recycling frequency was priced.
President Katy Kapaun said trustees reviewed the bids in January and awarded the contract to Olson Sanitation; she suggested the discrepancy may stem from interpreting recycling as monthly rather than bi-weekly. Stafsholt said he had been the low bidder on most combinations and that the board’s process created confusion. Trustee Brian Tremblay apologized to Stafsholt for the oversight.
The board did not rescind the award. Trustees agreed to bring the matter back into the procurement cycle with a new request for proposals in two years to allow re-evaluation of service combinations and pricing. No formal motion to change the current contract or to rebid immediately was recorded.
