The Village of Rockland Board of Trustees met in special session on April 22 and approved several measures including authorization for the Village president to vote on a fire truck purchase for the Bangor/Burns Fire Department, a newly instituted fire protection fee on water bills, a one-day liquor license for the department’s May 10 'Pork in the Park' event, and three TIF projects.
Trustee Penny Stock moved and Trustee Linda Young seconded a motion authorizing Village President Jon Hohlfeld to vote on the Bangor/Burns Fire Department’s proposed fire truck purchase; the motion carried. The minutes record that the truck would add approximately $7,000 per year to the Village’s share of the department fee, on top of an existing annual payment of about $48,000.
Following a yearly audit, the board said that "according to the PSC" the Village should have been charging a fire protection fee on water bills. The board approved implementing a fire protection fee beginning with the April water bill, due in May; the minutes say the fee amount will depend on meter size. Trustee Penny Stock moved and Trustee Seth Hemmersbach seconded the motion; it carried.
The board also approved a one-day liquor license requested by the Bangor/Burns Fire Department for May 10 (motion by Seth Hemmersbach, second by Penny Stock).
Under TIF project business the board approved three items: well update and repairs (motion by Bob Rueckheim, second by Seth Hemmersbach), paving of the Rock Street corridor and Bird Streets (motion by Penny Stock, second by Bob Nielsen), and implementing the water & sewer study findings including extending water and sewer service to the Village shop (motion by Linda Young, second by Seth Hemmersbach). Each motion is recorded as "carried"; minutes do not include roll-call vote tallies.
The special meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
