The Marthasville Board of Aldermen approved a motion on March 19, 2025 to replace deteriorated sidewalks on Depot Street and to pursue street improvements on Depot Street and adjacent blocks, the Board announced at its regular meeting.
Mayor David Lange and resident Dave Griffin reported that sidewalks along Depot Street are in poor condition and that replacing sidewalks should precede repaving work. Alderman Lange moved to authorize sidewalk and street improvements on Depot Street and on South Three, Four and Five Streets, with work to be handled by city crews and through competitive bids as directed by the mayor; Alderman Meyer seconded and the motion passed 4-0.
The Board discussed adding curb and gutter on the south side of Depot Street; Alderman DeVore agreed with the curb-and-gutter suggestion. The mayor characterized Depot Street as a business corridor and a primary entrance to the town, saying that sidewalk replacement would help the area’s appearance and function. City officials did not provide a construction schedule or cost estimate at the meeting.
Earlier in the meeting the mayor also noted that ongoing 5th Street and Commercial Drive projects are waiting on Ameren to move utility poles. The Board signaled plans to advertise unit-price bids for a variety of services in coming weeks, and Mayor Lange said an ad will run in the local newspaper for bids such as dump-truck hauling and wastewater sampling.
The Board voted unanimously to proceed; staff will prepare bid documents and coordinate next steps with the mayor’s direction.
