Olanta council accepts Jordan's immediate resignation; approves agenda and minutes

Mayor Michael W. Welch called the meeting to order and led routine business including unanimous approval of the Feb. 5 agenda on a motion from Council Member Leighann Beard and a second from Council Member Josh Jones. Council also unanimously approved the Jan. 8, 2025 minutes after a motion from Jones and a second from Marsha Jordan. The meeting included a special recognition naming Benny and Linda Oliver of 118 W Hampton St as Yard of the Month.
During the public comment portion of the meeting, Council Member Marsha Jordan announced she was resigning from her council seat effective immediately, saying she is moving closer to family. The council then moved to adjourn; Council Member Leighann Beard moved to adjourn and Council Member Jordan seconded the motion, and the meeting ended with no opposition.
No additional personnel actions or replacements were announced at the meeting; the council did not set a date to fill the vacancy during this session.
